英英辞典 4ページ目：about から abrupt まで。

今日は晩にもう1ページ目読んでみよう。

ところで、英語の学習というと、本を読んだりウェブサイトを漁ったり映画を観たり、最近だとTED等の動画や海外ドラマを通じての勉強が一般的で、辞書を読むというのはかなりマニアックな部類に入ると思う。

私もこういった一般的な楽しみながらの学びも好きなのだけど、一度英語辞書（しかも英英辞書）を通読してみたらどんな発見があるんだろうな、という興味があり、はじめてみた次第である。

*1:Both about and on can mean "on the subject of".　For example, A book on Chinese art / A book about China.　"on" suggests a serious or formal presentation.　→「Note」というセクションに、このようなマメ知識が書いてある。on と aboutの使い分けとか、あまり意識したことが無かったなぁ。

*2:When they describe a position higher than something, above and over can often be used in the same way.　However you can only use over when there is movement from one side of something to the other. For example, he threw the ball over the fence. 　Above and over can also mean "more than". Above is used in relation to a minimum level or a fixed point, while over is used with numbers, anges money and time. Such as, he is over 40.
