今回も「洋書の英語」さんで、面白いなと思った英語表現。毎度勉強になります。毎回イメージしやすいイラストや写真がついているのが素敵です。

  • it takes two to tango：「一人でできるものではない」「喧嘩両成敗」「両者に責任がある」等を意味する表現。文脈によってニュアンスはやや異なる。タンゴは一人で踊れないことから。

「洋書の英語」さんで、面白いなと思った英語表現。

  • bury one's head in the sand：「困難な現実から目をそらす」を意味する表現。ダチョウが敵が迫った時に頭を砂に隠すしぐさから来ているとのことですが、それってまさに「頭隠して尻隠さず」（ただ、実際は少量の砂を食べる習性があるだけで、頭を隠している訳ではないようです）。

  • Skeleton in the closet：「恥ずかしい秘密」を意味する表現。イギリスでAnatomy Act（解剖法）が制定される前、医師への遺体提供（による金稼ぎ）が目的で連続殺人事件が起きたんだとか。究極の本末転倒ですね…！

最近は、ブログを書きながらVOA Englishをアプリで聞いています。

聞き流しつつ、気になった時だけ集中して聞くのでも、けっこうリスニングの勉強になるかなと思います。

いつも勉強させて頂いている「洋書の英語」さんで、面白いなと思った英語表現。

  • Square meal：「たっぷりのまともな食事」を意味する表現。船乗りが、ちゃんとした食事をする時（夕食時）だけ四角いお皿をつかっていたことに由来するとのこと。へー！言葉自体は知っていたのですが、由来は知りませんでした。大変勉強になります。

  • in two minds：「迷っている」や「決めかねている」。これは割と言葉から連想しやすいですね。でも使いこなせるとネイティブっぽくていいかも。

一言でいうと、「音声だけのSNS」ですが、大変流行っているようで、Facebookで毎日のように関連ポストがアップされていました。

今般ようやく私のところにもお鉢が回ってきて、早速使ってみています。

要は、誰でも発信できるラジオみたいなものなのかな…？

まだ全然よくわかっていませんが、英語のRoomを流し聞きしていると、多少リスニングにも役立ちそうかなと思います。
