今日のページには、Afraidとfrightened, scaredの違いの説明コラムがありました。

・When somebody is afraid of, frightened of, or scared of something, they dislike that thing and feel fear when they see or experience it.

→「afraid of, frightened of, scared of」は、何かを嫌い、それをみたり経験すると恐れを感じる時に使う。

・When somebody is scared or frightened they are worried, and fear that something bad will happen.

→「scared, frightened」は、心配したり、何か悪いことが起こると恐れている時に使う。

・Scared is often used to describe small fears, especially by children.

→「Scared」は、特に子供による、小さな恐れを表す時によく使われる。

・If you are scared stiff, you are full of fear.

→「Scared stiff」は、とても恐れている時に使われる。

・You can use scared and frightened but not afraid, before a noun.

→「Scaredとfrigntened」は名詞の前に置くことができるが、「afraid」は不可。
